So yesterday Husband and I found ourselves both home with not much on. The girls were all at school and everyone was healthy so we decided to go on a date…. Yes a date during the day. Just us, no children. Something we had never done.

We decided to go to the movies and watch a film. We go regularly with the girls to watch the latest Kids films but a real grown up movie. Neither of us could remember the last time we did that together.

We had a look at what was on and booked Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Then on off we went. We picked up a pot of jelly sweets for old time sake and settled down to watch the film. It felt very naughty going to the cinema during a week day but it was actually busier then we imagined.

The film itself was brilliant and we were really enjoying it. It had been on for about an hour when Husbands phone vibrated. He had a quick look to check it wasn’t anyone important and spotted the schools name flashing up. We couldn’t believe it. I popped outside with it and was given the news.

“Is that Poppy’s Mum? Now don’t worry but…” Yes that dreaded “but” that you never want to hear.

Turns out she had fallen off the monkey bars and bitten her lip as she fell. She was apparently ok but had gone right through her lip and would need to go to hospital. A total disaster. I felt terrible that we were 15-20 minutes away so quickly sped back to husband grabbed our stuff and we headed towards school feeling sick, guilty and terribly worried. We haven’t had to take any of our children to hospital before.

When I arrived she was covered in blood, it was all down her top and when she showed me what had happened I almost passed out. She had two holes through her bottom lip front and back! I tried to be brave though and reassure her it wasn’t as bad I thought and she would be ok.

From School we hurried to A&E. Husband had to get back to collect the other two so it was just Poppy and I with a long wait. However, when we were finally seen about three hours later we were told we needed to go to another hospital halfway across London and literally hours away in rush hour traffic. Luckily my Sister came to the rescue. Poppy and I whizzed home to where she would meet us, we grabbed a bag and Poppy changed out of her blood splattered clothes before we headed on to the next hospital. I was in no state to drive and someone needed to stay to look after the other girls.

Another long long wait, more anxiousness for all us but eventually she was seen. By this point it was gone 10pm (9 hours after she first hurt herself). She was utterly exhausted but still amazingly brave. I cannot tell you how brave she was! I was so proud of her. By this time all they could do were give her a good clean up, a dressing and some antibiotics. Poppy felt a little better at this time. Stitches were likely to be required but unable to do that out of hours we were booked in to return today.

Today though an emergency took over and she was not seen. Hopefully it will be tomorrow. In the meantime the wound keeps oozing and bleeding, she looks tired and unwell. She has spent the day cuddling and watching films. She is still being very brave but Is now getting anxious about how she will look. Funny enough she’s more worried about having a scab on her chin then stitches under her lip.

The whole thing has been a nightmare and is still not over yet. Fingers crossed it all goes well tomorrow.

As for Husband and I, are we in a hurry to return and finish our date? Sadly no. The film was great and spending time together even better but we were left feeling as though it was our fault this happened! This definitely had to be the worst date ever!
