Prior to having children and living the wonderful DINKY (Double income no kids yet) lifestyle, Husband and I lived it up and travelled several times a year, not believing it to be a holiday unless we went on a plane.

We travelled all over and had some amazing holidays but our favourite special, happy place was the Maldives. We actually went there on three separate occasions to different islands and if we could afford it, would love to take our girls there one day. It would be amazing for them to experience snorkelling in the warm turquoise water of the indian ocean and when old enough learn to dive there like us. It really is the most amazing place in the whole wide world with the brightest turquoise blue sea, clear water, undersea life and golden sandy beaches. My idea of heaven:

Our favourite resort was Keredu. The island where we enjoyed our honeymoon courtesy of my lovely In Laws. The perfect wedding present and place to start married life.

Whichever island you visit you fly into Male, the Capital first. Prior to arriving you will fly over several of the resorts and the beautiful turquoise sea.  Honestly it looks like something out of the brochures.

To get to Keredu you will then need to take either a boat or a seaplane. We chose the seaplane which was an amazing experience. The driver flew barefoot!

The island at the time was a no news news no shoes one. Nowadays they have flat screen tvs and free wifi but we loved the laid back philosophy back in 2004. Literally we didn’t wear shoes or see tv/hear the radio for 2 weeks. We rang our parents at the start to say we arrived safely and that was it. It was perfect, we felt completely cut off from the outside world and reality. Bliss!.

We stayed in a beautiful beach bungalow just steps away from the sea. It was very romantic. The bathroom was outdoors and I cannot describe how amazing taking a shower was. We had a lovely room boy who husband tipped early on and as a result often came back to find the bed decorated in flower petals like this:

Its amazing how the simple things stay in your mind. Husband and I loved how they left a bowl of water to dip your feet in as you left the beach, keeping your room clean and sand free:

The island has its own house reef which is amazing. There really was no need to travel out deeper if you didn’t want to. We swam with turtles, baby sharks and millions of amazing fish pretty close to the shore, although we did go out on the boat too.

I cannot express how beautiful and amazing this holiday is. In fact one of my friends loved our photos so much she booked her own honeymoon there two years later and was not disappointed. Luckily she had the most amazing time too.

We enjoyed a free boat trip, took a secluded Robinson Crusoe experience complete with picnic, tried windsurfing (a bit difficult with no wind) and were completely pampered with a spa experience for two. Apart from that though we literally lazed in the sunshine and enjoyed each others company for two whole weeks.

After writing this I am suffering from an extreme case of wanderlust and unable to think about about anything other than holidays and one day returning here. Fingers crossed  we do.

I am linking in with the lovely Mari from Maris World and her Time Traveller linky.
