Back in August I received The Vampire Diaries complete first season to review courtesy of Warner Bros. When I agreed to do it I had forgotten underestimated the impact a newborn has on your family/time and evenings so its taken a while for me to get around to (a) watch it and (b) write this review but I’ve finally started to get my evenings back to myself and am able to watch a whole episode or two and blog again.
So whats it all about then?
It’s Elena’s first day back at Mystic Falls High School since the tragic death of
her parents. Along with her Aunt Jenna, Elena tries her best to look after her
troubled younger brother, Jeremy, and salvage what family they have left.
The first day is already shaping up to be a struggle for Elena until she meets
the mysterious new kid at school, Stefan. Elena is touched that he can relate
to what she’s going through. What Elena doesn’t know is that Stefan is a
vampire, constantly resisting the urge to taste her blood. As their undeniable
connection grows deeper, Stefan’s dangerous older brother, Damon, shows
up to wreak havoc on the town of Mystic Falls – and claim Elena for himself.THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is based on the bestselling book series from Alloy
Entertainment, which has recently been re-released and is enjoying time on
The New York Times Best Sellers list.
For me this is pure teen soap and is very easy viewing. It does have the predictable Vampire meets School girl story but it is oh so much more than that. Where it was a television series rather than a film like Twilight there is not just one storyline but instead several of them and I cant wait to see what happens next.
In total there are 22 episodes of this supernatural drama. That’s a lot of viewing and to be honest I haven’t reached the end yet but am keen to get there. I am enjoying watching a few episodes a night once the girls are in bed and I must admit its pretty addictive viewing.
Like most soaps, almost every episode ends on a cliff hanger and its tempting to stay up a bit longer to watch the next bit.
For me the characters make this series. They are all likeable and to be honest pretty good looking too. I particularly like Damen played by Ian Someholder (you may recognise him from Lost – another series I was addicted to). The love triangle between Elena, Stefan and Damen is the main focus of the series and is interesting to say the least.
With flashbacks, explosive story lines and plenty of twist and turns what’s there not to like?
This series is widely available and is currently on sale at Amazon for £8.49.
If you are into your vampires you cant go wrong with this box set.
