The first week of our summer holidays has had its ups and downs but we have been really fortunate to have lovely sunny weather which helps. We don’t go away for a few weeks yet so for this now we have been relaxing and unwinding at home and locally.
We have been into London for the day and visited the Princess Diana Memorial playground for the first time. If you haven’t been before it is fantastic for children. Don’t forget their swimsuits! The only thing that ruined it for us were some horrible boys at the end. Honestly I wouldn’t usually use words like that to describe children but these boys truly were. We couldn’t see the parents anywhere but they threw a bicycle helmet at Rosie and a water bottle full of sand at Poppy and kept trying to hurt them both. We left after that.
We have had a birthday party for Poppy and then a family day out and picnic to celebrate Husband and Poppys joint birthdays. We have visited Polesden Lacey, a wonderful National Trust house and gardens. We have eaten lots of ice lollies and ice creams and enjoyed a few picnics too.
We’ve been to a family fun day at Daddy’s work. There were all sorts of stalls and crafts, face paiinting and bouncy castles. There were races for the kids and a barbecue for tea. It was so hot though all the faceprint melted off!
We have played in the garden, with the sprinkler and trampoline and we have taken the bikes out too.
We’ve even been to see The BFG at the cinema followed by a pizza at Pizza Hut afterwards. A fantastic film if you get a chance to see it.
It has taken a while for Daisy to adjust and get used to having her Sisters home all day. She’s not used to sharing me all day so this has not all been plain sailing. We’ve definitely had our share of arguments and squabbling. I just hope this all settles down and they get back to being best of friends again.
So that’s our first week. What have you been up to? Hope you are all enjoying your summer holidays too.

July 30, 2016 at 2:45 pm (8 years ago)Sounds like a busy week with lots of lovely activities packed in. I loved the sound of Poppy’s birthday and it looks like you’ve had better weather than us all round this week, though we finally have blue skies today. Fingers crossed for more fun next week and less squabbles as the holidays settle into a pattern.
Thank you for sharing at #CountryKids

August 2, 2016 at 11:29 am (8 years ago)Rain was forecast when we went so took the costumes out and replaced them with cardigans. It didn’t rain at all and we wished we had them. Theres a fab beach bit with a pirate ship and I had visions of at least one of mine being soaked. I would always take something in future. Have fun x

July 31, 2016 at 8:01 pm (8 years ago)Awww those boys needs to be reported to the park authority I think. I mean its mean and bullying! I can only imagine what they would do if you are not there! Really ruined a good day.
At least you still get to have some fun on other trips!

August 2, 2016 at 11:30 am (8 years ago)I’d definitely go back and should have made more effort to find their parents or report them. I think we just hurried off before one of ours got seriously hurt. Thank goodness we had been there a while and probably would have been leaving soon anyway x

July 31, 2016 at 10:51 pm (8 years ago)You have had a busy first week. We have been toying with taking the girls to see the BFG too but we weren’t sure if they might find the idea of giants bringing dreams a little scary! Ice cream and trampolines have featured high here too. x

August 2, 2016 at 11:33 am (8 years ago)The BFG is fab! To be honest though if your children are sensitive and have nightmares I wouldn’t go yet as the giants are very realistic and made me jump a few times. That said Daisy understood theres not such thing and enjoyed it. She did come and sit on my knee and snuggle in for most of it though. The big girls thought it was the best film ever!! xx

August 1, 2016 at 9:07 pm (8 years ago)Sounds like you have had lots of fun! It is tough keeping them entertained though especially as the weather hasn’t been too great where we are. The BFG is on our to do list! #countrykids

August 1, 2016 at 10:48 pm (8 years ago)You’ve done two of my favourite days out in your first week – I love the Diana playground and Polesden Lacy (although sorry to hear about the nasty boys – what a horrible end to a nice day). Hope you enjoy the rest of the Summer break.
