A dining set is one of those pieces of furniture that should last for years so it’s important to get it right. For us the dining table is like the kitchen, the hub of family life. Somewhere we eat together, chat together, play together, get creative and even work. It’s a huge focal point in our home and family life.
In our house Husband likes classic, good quality, heavy oak furniture whilst I look more at style. I like things that have a contemporary, modern feel to them and prefer lighter colours. When picking furniture for our home it’s important for us to find a good balance between the two of these.
We have been wanting to replace our dining set for a long time and almost did earlier this year until Rosie decided to decorate and scribble all over the old seat pads and table when I wasn’t looking (aaahhhh)!
Luckily for us though the wait paid off as I have been extremely lucky to be asked to review a piece of furniture for Oak Furniture land. So over a glass of wine (or two) Husband and I perused their very easy to use website and picked out this beautiful dining set:
The gap this end is where Daisy’s Highchair usually is although I can’t imagine she will be in it long as she loves the bench. I’ve left the gap purposely though to give you the full view of the stunning table end.
Showroom Customer Service
After finding what we wanted online, a quick trip to the Cheltenham showroom reassured us it was definitely the table for us but we couldn’t decide between two benches and two chairs or one bench and four chairs to compliment it. Luckily the customer service we received was fantastic and the staff were very kind, helping us to rearrange the furniture in the showroom until we could decide on the perfect solution for us:
Delivery
24 hours before delivery we were given a three hour timeslot of 10.30am-1.30pm. Handy when planning your day. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances and an accident, we didn’t receive our delivery until much later on (7pm). However, the customer service we received was faultless with three phone calls keeping us reassured and updated on the situation meaning it wasn’t a problem or stressful at all.
Packaging
When our dining set finally arrived it was all very well packaged and the delivery men were fantastic. Everything was carefully wrapped and Husband was particularly impressed with how easy everything was to put together. It just worked. A sign of good quality.
Style
The chunky shape of this dining set and the natural colour compliments all of our other furniture from Oak Furniture land beautifully. You wouldn’t know they weren’t all brought from the same range at the same time. Despite our other furniture being around 4 years old now and the collection no longer continued you cannot tell.
This large contemporary chunky 6ft x 3ft solid oak table is perfect for this family. There are no grooves for the girls to poke or run their fingers, pens or cutlery round, it is just perfectly smooth and large enough to fit the whole family comfortably without worrying about extending it. There is even room for a few guests. We have actually managed to fit 11 of us around it for a huge family roast dinner (6 adults and five children). It’s fantastic 🙂
Prior to a bloggers day out at Oak Furniture land I had never considered a bench before. However, as soon as I saw one set up in their Swindon showroom, I knew it would be ideal for this family. All three girls could fit on it together, with room for another if need be, it would also be easy to keep clean….perfect for my messy eaters. Top tip: we use the soft brush hoover attachment to clean out the grooves. It works perfectly:
I fell in love with these wave back solid natural oak and leather pad chairs the moment I saw them and knew they were just what we needed. The curved shape is very contemporary and looks fabulous, the 3 cut out squares allow light to reflect all around the room and look amazing and they are of course very comfortable. They are also very heavy which appeals to my husband:
Cost
Oak Furniture land have recently introduced a dining set builder which allows you to pick any table and any chairs to design your perfect set and save £’s off the price. Using the dining set builder this whole set totalled around £948.54, a very competitive price for a heavy, quality, solid wood dinning set which I have no doubt will last for years.
In oak Furniture land we have discovered a style that suits us both – furniture that is contemporary yet solid. A winning combination. What is your style?
A huge thank you Oak Furniture land. This table and chairs set is a perfect match for our family and we are very grateful. I’m pretty sure we will be using it for years to come.

We did recieve this dinning set in return for this review but all words and opinions are my own.
