Today was a snow day and stuck for things to do I thought we should try making snow ice cream. Honestly if you haven’t  heard of it before, snow ice cream really is a thing. Look it up as there are so many recipients. Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coconut…the list is endless:

Our cupboards were a little bare as I’ve had children off sick recently and now we are snowed in, so we stuck with good old vanilla. The girls called it ‘snowscream’ and loved it. They can’t wait to try it again soon.

The recipie asked for condensed milk but we couldn’t get our car out of the drive and our local corner shop only had evaporated milk. I googled it again and saw you could use:

  • 1 tin of evaporated milk
  • 1 cup of  sugar
  • 1tsp vanilla

First Rosie combined the ingredients and gave them a good mix. Once that was done, Poppy and Daisy went out to collect the snow. We chose to collect the newly landed fresh snow from our trampoline. There was so much of it and it was very white. No children or animals had been near there so it definitely wasn’t yellow:

Then we mixed the sugary milk in with the snow.  We had to work quickly so the girls didn’t even take their coats off. They were all very eager to join in. At first it was a bit runny so I sent the girls out for more snow. That soon sorted it out. Basically you just keep mixing until it looks like ice cream:

We ended up having some straight away and then put the rest in the freezer in an old ice cream tub for later. It didn’t last long as the girls wanted it for pudding. They loved it:

The only person who didn’t want any was Daddy. He thought the idea of eating snow was disgusting but I’m sure he’s eaten worse. We all just thought he was a bit boring. Doesnt  he know kids try it without the sweet stuf?

Have you tried it yet?
