My girls love going to the cinema and think of it as a real treat. So when we were invited to see Sherlock Gnomes ahead of its release date, we jumped at the chance. Days out have been pretty tricky with a poorly one but we thought she could manage sitting down and enjoying a film with sweets. It turned out she could too:
We headed down to the Showcase Cinema de Lux in Bristol, a treat in itself. It was a very lovely looking cinema, with big comfy seats. The girls loved it and felt very special.
The Plot
The beloved garden gnomes from Gnomeo and Juliet are back for a whole new adventure in London. When they first arrive in the city with their friends and family, their biggest concern is getting their new garden ready for spring. However, they soon discover that someone is kidnapping garden gnomes all over London. When Gnomeo and Juliet return home to find that everyone in their garden is missing – there’s only one gnome to call… SHERLOCK GNOMES. The famous detective and sworn protector of London’s garden gnomes arrives with his sidekick Watson to investigate the case. The mystery will lead our gnomes on a rollicking adventure where they will meet all new ornaments and explore an undiscovered side of the city.
This action-packed sequel features the voices of returning cast, James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Stephen Merchant and Ozzy Osbourne, plus Johnny Depp as Sherlock Gnomes, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Watson and Mary J. Blige as Irene. Directed byJohn Stevenson.
What We Thought Of It
Our girls aged 5,7 and 9 years loved the original Gnomeo and Julliet, watching it over and over like you do at their ages. Therefore they couldn’t wait to see Sherlock Gnomes, the sequel. They were not disappointed either, thinking it hilariously funny
Personally I don’t think it was as good as the original but my girls would disagree. There were a few bits I cringed at…mainly the mankini and a few of the jokes. However, all of those things went way over my girls heads. For younger children though, I should point out the gargoyles are pretty scary. Daisy at five was terrified and snuggled into me hiding her face whenever they came on. She didn’t have nightmares or anything but she definitely didn’t like them at all.
Overall Shelock Gnomes a light hearted, family friendly film that will be enjoyed over and over just like the first one. You don’t have to wait long now to see it now either. It is coming soon to a cinema near you from 11th May 2018.
If you haven’t seen it yet you can check out the trailer here.
Definitely worth a trip.
