This Summer whilst away on holiday Daisy amazed us all and learnt to swim!
She had never had any lessons before, never listened to any instruction from Mummy, Daddy or big Sisters or even shown any interest in learning either. However, whilst away on holiday she was eagre to learn and determined to learn to swim. In fact she was watching her Sisters very carefully and then copying.
In typical Daisy fashion, she didn’t just tentatively swim a few strokes either. She was swimming under the water, above it and then diving in the deep end with either Mummy or Daddy and just swimming a whole width of the pool. She was brilliant:
She was thrilled with herself and the whole family were very proud of her too which made her want to do it more. When she wasn’t swimming she was leaping into the water shouting “cannonball” at the top of her voice or practicing her dives. It was funny to watch. Thank goodness there was an adult only pool for those who didn’t want to be surrounded by children doing things like this:
We were very proud of her indeed and plan to keep it up now we are back:
When she wasn’t swimming she was getting Daddy to make her fly. As always she was absolutely fearless:
So that’s all the girls swimming now and all three of them learn to swim whilst away on holiday. Poppy leant to swim last Easter (aged 6) in Vendee, France. Then it was Rosie last Summer (aged 5) in the Dordogne and finally Daisy (aged 4) in the Algarve. My three little mermaids.
I can see plenty more holidays with lots more water fun now. Keep an eye out for lots more holiday fun. We took so many photos and have so much to share.
I also have a little video I will add in later.

September 17, 2016 at 8:07 am (8 years ago)It’s great that Daisy took it upon herself to learn to swim this holiday, swimming is such an important skill for the kids to learn. She looks so confident in the water as well, it’s hard to imagine this was her first holiday swimming by herself. I’m sure she’ll be begging to get back in the water soon for more swimming fun!
Thanks for sharing with me on #CountryKids.

September 18, 2016 at 5:41 pm (8 years ago)Wow, well done Daisy. She needs to teach N. He’s been having lessons for 5.5 years and still can’t swim a width on his own. We definitely need more holidays with swimming pools because this year’s really helped his confidence. But there’s no way he’d be diving off like that either. She’s a real dare devil. #countrykids

September 22, 2016 at 11:18 am (8 years ago)Considering she’s just learnt to swim she’s very brave and confident in the water. I just LOVe that flying shot – not least because of the effort you can see your husband is putting into it!
Well done that she learnt to swim without lessons, I do think swimming is mainly about confidence and the finer points, like perfecting a stroke, comes later, if necessary!
Great photos

September 28, 2016 at 12:29 pm (8 years ago)Thank you. The way she learnt was Daisy all over. Im going to watch my Sisters, not tell anyone and will do it when I want to!! She’s fearless and just throws herself into things once she’s decided thats what she wants to do. You are so right, plenty of time for perfecting strokes and stuff. Right now she can keep herself above water and play with her sisters so thats good enough x
