Now before I start I have to tell you that this was not a free holiday this time and I did not receive any discounts in return for my views. It was purely a wonderful family holiday experience that I wanted to share with you all.
Finding a holiday for five of us was exasperating to say the least. Five flights costs the earth before you even think about accommodation, food and entertainment. After searching It almost looked liked we weren’t going to get away abroad again when Husband stumbled upon Eurocamp.
With so many places to choose from we browsed them all before settling on Les Ecureuils. The smaller site, family run atmosphere and promise of magnificent beaches appealed to us immediately.
The Booking Process
The disappointment of not going on a plane was quickly replaced with enthusiasm and excitement for a different type of holiday. The website was so easy to navigate and once we found what we wanted it was super easy to book. Everything could be done in one place. You booked your accommodation, any extras, even your travel. There were maps and information on how to get to your destination and what to do once there too. We were really impressed.
Accommodation
There is something for everyone at Eurocamp from pitches to take your own tent or caravan, ready set up tents and safari glamping tents to a variety of mobile homes to suit all needs and budgets.
Now I must admit I am not a camping type of girl, yes I have enjoyed glamping a few times but usually I’m more of a five star hotel kind of girl and not afraid to say it. Because this was a last minute booking we were fortunate enough to get a half price deal so we booked the best accommodation available. The Avant – a lovely three bedroom, 1 bathroom holiday home.
These are new this year and we were actually fortunate enough to be the first to stay in ours. Everything you needed was included except bedding and towels, although you could pay extra to have them included. There was everything from crockery and cutlery to a dishwasher and a corkscrew. There was plenty of space to put things away and we loved the little added touches like the black out blinds, insect screens and the gate on the deck. Perfect for holidaying with children, which is what Eurocamp is all about.
The deck was the space we used most. It was fantastic. A big table and chairs meant we could eat all of our meals outside, there was space for the girls to play, for us to lounge in the sun whilst dinner was cooking or Daisy was napping and for Husband and I to enjoy a glass of wine or two once the girls were in bed. Perfect!
Heres a little video clip:
If I was to complain about anything it would be that the beds were a little hard but we weren’t sure if it was because we were the first to use them. However, all the fresh air tired us out and none of us had problems sleeping.
The staff
Most of the team were new but all very friendly and approachable and couldn’t be more helpful. As soon as you arrive, someone shows you exactly where to go. They jump on their bike and you follow in your car. During our stay, they were always friendly and helpful and the night before we left someone popped round to see if we had enjoyed our stay and if we had any complaints at all.
The Pools
There were several pools to choose from. Two indoor ones ( a baby pool and bigger one) featuring the mushroom shower and a jacuzzi. There was an outdoors waterslide pool and lazy river, the main rectangle pool and an outside toddler one too. We used them all. The only thing I would say is that they could all have done with being a few degrees warmer. Looking around our girls weren’t the only ones shivering with blue lips at different times of the holiday and it is things like this that can make or break someones experience.
On the website it stated that the waterslides were for ages 7+ but being out of season it was very quiet so all the girls used them. We weren’t the only ones either. There was lots of little ones enjoying them. Our eldest and youngest were completely crazy and could have spent all day going up and down.
The Play Park
The play park looked new and was a lovely place to play. Something for all ages it was built in the sand so soft under foot. The girls enjoyed scooting along to there most evenings and we even went on the morning of our departure:
There was also a little soft play area in the bar. Again it looked new and clean and the girls had a little play there on our last night.
Distance to Beach
The beach was a very short walk just outside the front gate. You have to cross the main road and then follow a sandy track. You will need shoes as there was lots of pine needles and bark on the path but it was a lovely little walk:
The park itself
The park is really pretty and very quiet too. We went during half term and it was about 80% full. It didn’t feel packed and we had no problems with noisy neighbours. I had read comments about cabins being really close together and yes they are pretty close but they have tried to be considerate with the use of landscaping and not having decks facing each other. I cant comment on what it would be like in the middle of summer when fully booked but we thought it was lovely.
We noticed straight away that most of the other holiday makers were just like us too, normal parents with several young children (well you do worry about these things don’t you?).
Kids club
This was a highlight of our holiday for the big girls. They went for 2 hours a day Sunday through to Thursday and did something different everyday. They put on a show and had their faces painted as butterflies, made robots and had their faces painted again, they went to a pizza party at the onsite restaurant and took part in a science session. They enjoyed meeting other children, the staff and doing their own thing for a while. It made them feel very grown up.
There was a kids club for the younger ones but you had to stay with them if under 4 years. It would have been nice if we could have left Daisy too as she would have quite happily stayed and played whilst husband and I enjoyed some child free time together (which we never get)! It wasn’t a huge deal though, we just had some quiet time at the pool or beach with Daisy who appreciated all the extra attention and not having to share us for a while.
Swimming lessons
I will be doing a separate post about these as they were so good. Charlotte the instructor worked miracles with my girls and we couldn’t recommend them enough.
Overall we really enjoyed our holiday with Eurpocamp and wouldn’t hesitate to go back or recommend to friends and family. In fact it would be fun to go back with others.
If you have been considering booking with them hope this has helped.
