When you are holidaying in the Uk there is always the chance of rain but when you make it a Winter holiday then rain is almost guaranteed. The weather doesn’t have to ruin your holiday though. On our recent trip to Cornwall we experienced a lot of rain but still enjoyed a fantastic break and came back feeling fully refreshed and relaxed.
In no particular order, here are our top 5 things to do in Cornwall in the rain:
1. Cornwall is such a beautiful part of the Country so wrap up warm and pull on your wellies before heading out to the beach. Enjoy collecting shells washed up by the huge waves, exploring rock pools and splashing in the water but be sensible and don’t go out too far. Oh and don’t forget spare clothes just in case:
2. Head to the Eden Project. We didn’t go this time round but having been several times before we can whole heartedly recommend it for a great day out. Check out my post about when I forgot to take coats on holiday:
3. Enjoy a day in. We spent one day doing just that. We stayed in our beautiful cottage and relaxed with books in front of a roaring log burner. Like us, if its a really bad day you might find no-one wants to go out. Older children might surprise you and be content to just chill with books or kindles whilst younger ones happily play with toys:
4. Go for a drive to the beach and watch the waves from the warmth and safety of your car. We actually did this too! You could always quickly hop out for Rick Steins Fish and chips if you want to. There are several of them dotted around cornwall:
5. Go swimming. If your accommodation doesn’t have a pool you could head to Waterworld in Newquay. I must admit we thought it was pretty expensive for what it was (almost £30 for our family of 5) but sometimes when its raining you need to get out and do something a bit different:
As you can see there are lots of things to do on rainy days. Whatever you do though, don’t let a bit of rain spoil your holiday. We didn’t!

January 9, 2016 at 10:18 pm (9 years ago)Love this list of ideas for rainy days – that fire looks especially cosy! Wellies are always good for being able to enjoy rainy days and the Eden Project sounds fab too – we’ve never been but hopefully will visit one day 🙂

January 16, 2016 at 12:31 am (9 years ago)We were in Cornwall last August and it did rain every single day!! Part & parcel of British summertime, some may say(!) but I agree with you in that you have to still get out and about. A good raincoat and wellies is all your need! We haven’t been to the Eden Project for nearly 10 years; I’m sure it’s changed hugely. Thnx for the reminder, we should re-visit

January 16, 2016 at 11:11 am (9 years ago)Holidaying in this country is always a challenge with the weather. You did do well getting out and about regardless of the weather. I remember that post from the Eden project, it has come on a lot since then so worth a another visit next time you are down. You have such a lovely family and a positive approach to getting out and having fun I can’t imagine anything getting in your way of a good time, certainly not a little rain! Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
