I'm cheating a bit this week with my country Kids post as I posted this last Sunday. Unfortunately I've not had much time for blogging as Rosie is recovering from chickenpox (covered in itchy scabs) whilst Poppy and Daisy now have it! It's been a busy week for me. Anyway…..
Poppy used to have a Strider balance bike which she loved and got on really well with. She never should have needed stabilisers. However, when we brought her a real bike last October she just didn't get peddling at all. Teaching her to pedal whilst trying to keep her balanced was a nightmare so in the end we gave in and put stabilisers on.
The plan was to get her peddling and get them off quickly. However, a combination of never having free hands (no baby, toddler) time and Poppy's lack of confidence meant they stayed on.
This Summer I was determined to get them off and today was the day. Daisy was napping, husband was home to look after Rosie. I mentioned it to Poppy first thing and for once was not met with reluctance. In fact she was quite excited.
Daddy didn't think she was ready so left us to it. We decided to prove him wrong and we did! After running up and down the street with her for about 20 minutes I was finally able to let go……
…..and she kept on riding:
….and riding:
And riding…..
She did it!
She was so excited and proud of herself we kept practising. Then 10 minutes later went to get Daddy. He couldn't believe his eyes making Poppy even prouder of herself.
I'm so proud of my big girl but i'm also a little bit proud of myself too for teaching her, so quickly too!

August 7, 2013 at 6:35 pm (11 years ago)Well done Poppy! My mum taught me to ride my bike; I didn’t think anything of it at the time but it’s usually seen as a ‘Dads job’ so I think she did a pretty good job, as have you!
