Everyone loves strawberry picking but have you picked your own corn before?
We did it for the first time last week and not only was it was great for family fun but at £2 for 5 corns, it was a cheap way to spend a morning out too. A perfect summer activity:
The girls enjoyed running through the corn field, hiding in amongst them. They were so tall, we could have easily lost them but luckily they didn't venture too far:
All three of the girls love corn on the cob so were excited to see how it grows. They enjoyed learning about the corn from Daddy and helping to pick their own dinner:
We had hoped to pick fruit too but the rasberries and strawberries we wanted weren't available that day. The girls weren't too upset though, they enjoyed their walk and play in the fields and then we managed to get some from the farm shop at the end:
Which of course the girls taste tested there and then in the sunshine. The verdict?….. mmmmm delicious:
Once home, the girls helped cover them in butter and wrap them in tin foil before Daddy popped them in the oven. I must admit dinner that night was a huge success with nothing but corn cobs left behind.
As always, linking in with country kids, the real inspiration behind our outdoor activities:

August 15, 2014 at 11:22 pm (10 years ago)I have never seen corn picking before but what a bargain and as always I love your photos. We have tried for several years to grow our own corn but only ever managed to grow lush stalks, I shall be on the hunt for a PYO now! Thank you for sharing a delightful post on Country Kids and for the lovely comment at the end of your post about the linky.

When we went apple picking last fall there was a field of corn which the kids immediately disappeared into 🙂 They of course picked a couple, but it turned out it was cattle corn! It was fun watching them run through the stalks though. Looks like your girls were having a fantastic time x

We used to creep through a broken fence and run about through the corn – suspect the farmer would not have been pleased about it but it was fun for us! Good to know there are legitimate ways of doing this though – might have to try this with my little ones when they are a bit bigger 🙂
