Picture this…..

Husband is eyeing up a huge massive Daddy deer and refusing to open his window to feed it. “Go on Daddy” say the girls. “yes go on Husband ” I say. ….”don’t be such a chicken”. But he doesn’t budge.

Then the ever so slightly smaller Mummy one comes to my side. I open the window and pick up the box of deer food but before I know it she has her head inside the window making me jump and scream. I promptly throw the box of food in the air, so as it lands I become covered in it. She doesn’t seem to mind though and takes it as an invitation to eat straight from my lap. I try to close the window gently (and without chopping her head off), inside quietly panicking that she will actually get into the car.

This is how our exciting Wild Winter Safari at West Midland safari Park started and the fun never ended there. I did however, relax and enjoy myself once I realised these gentle animals weren’t going to eat me or the family. It turned out to be a fantastic family day out, an adventure for us all, courtesy of Money Supermarket vouchers.

As soon as we approached the entrance to the park we knew it was going to be pretty special. Covered in fake snow (we went before the real stuff landed) it really was like a Winter Wonderland.

We started the day off with the 100-acre, four-mile, all-weather drive-through safari where we encountered more than 600 types of exotic animals. Obviously there are only certain animals you can feed but its clearly sign posted when you need to keep windows closed. Feeding is definitely a must though. Seeing the faces of the girls was pretty memorable as was mine to them :-).

Having been to Zoo’s before the girls couldn’t believe we were seeing and feeding animals from the car.

From Rhinos and elepants to giraffes, wild dogs and white tigers there is something for everyone. The highlight for all of us had to be the white lions though:

West Midland Safari Park has the only pride of rare white lions in the Uk and they were absolutely beautiful. We were so close and could have happily stayed watching them all day…..amazing.

I have to point out that we felt very safe during this trip. In each of the dangerous animal enclosures there were park rangers in vehicles and electric fences. Obviously our doors and windows were locked but we never felt threatened.

It doesn’t all happen from the car though…there’s plenty to discover on foot too. The girls sat in Santas sleigh and ran along the discovery trail answering quiz questions along the way. We saw flying bats, jumping rats, reptiles incluing snakes and spiders from around the world and we even watched sea lion and penguin shows. There was so much to do.

It really was truly special and we cant wait to go back again on another adventure.

We would deffinitley recommend this for a fun family day out.
