Well considering it has been half term, it really hasn’t been the great week off we were hoping for, which is such a shame. We had been planning on going to Cornwall at the weekend but the weather forecast was terrible and the girls have been really poorly. On a bright note though, we got lots of packing done ready to move in a few weeks time.
Monday – Poppy came down with a stinking cold and really wasn’t well. She had watery eyes, runny nose and sore throat plus sneezing. We ended up having a bit of a Cbeebies day, with Poppy lying on the sofa wrapped in a blanket. Rosie was quite happy playing with all the toys and having her Sister at home.
My parents went to look at our new address for us today and reported back that all is good. We are going to live just 20 minutes away from them. It was very exciting to see photos and hear that we are close to shops and things after being pretty isolated down here. Husband and I got really excited and had a huge packing session once the girls were in bed.
Tuesday – was pretty much the same as yesterday. Poppy didn’t want to do much at all, I tried getting the play dough and paint pens out but she just wanted to lie on the sofa wrapped up. I did manage to catch her interest for a bit when I made the girls a den out of two boxes and stuck blankets and toys in them. She happily played for a bit with her Sister whilst I packed some more.
Wednesday – Poppy was still not right but feeling slightly better. We managed to play in the garden for a bit today. It was very windy and cold but not raining. We checked out the sunflowers which are doing ok. I also gave the girls some large bits of packing paper to colour in whilst I sorted out the kitchen. They loved it and drew lots of lovely pictures which I then wrapped the breakables in. Should make us smile when we unwrap them the other end.
Thursday – I decided to have a day off from packing and just play with the girls all day. First we made some yummy cakes and decorated them and then we played with a variety of toys. Unfortunately the day went downhill this afternoon as I accidentally burnt Poppy. It was horrendous and I felt like the worst Mum in the World.
It didn’t help that I was home with the girls by myself and Husband was at work with the car. It was hammering it down with rain and I had no money on me for the bus or taxi so couldn’t take her to the Doctors. During the evening Rosie then came down with croup. We recognised the awful barking cough and she was struggling to breath. What a night! I was up all night constantly checking on them both and didn’t sleep a wink.
Friday – We managed to get a Doctors appointment for both girls. Rosie was diagnosed with croup and given steroids and we were told Poppy’s burn is superficial so there should be no lasting damage. What a relief. The Doctor was very good and reassuring but they didn’t look or feel great today.
Saturday – We went to see about car seats and worked out a way to fit all three in a row. It means Poppy needs a new one as well as the baby but they all fitted well and safely. I also spent a Mothercare voucher I had on a little dress for the baby, tiny socks and a large Peppa pig for the girls that they fell in love with. We then enjoyed a quick lunch out before heading home. Once back we ordered both seats in pink rather than the black they had in the shop. It felt good to have done it as 34 weeks now so wont be long now before we will have them all in the car.
Sunday – We took the girls to a ball park to run around and let off some steam. They had great fun and it was lovely to see Rosie so confident…she hadn’t been for a while and was much more able this time. They were both exhausted afterwards so Poppy enjoyed some quiet time whilst Rosie napped. We were all zapped this afternoon I think.
Here’s a few snaps from our week:
So, not the best week in the world but fortunately the girls are all feeling much better. Poppy is excited about getting back to School and ballet this week as she has missed her friends and its only a few weeks until we move so we are going to be busy this week.
