Last weekend we popped up to Nottinghamshire to visit Husbands side of the family. My Sister -in-law has just had a new baby so the girls couldn’t wait to meet her and of course see their other cousins too. However, after a long car journey on Saturday we escaped into Sherwood forest on Sunday for a bit of outdoor fun.
We have been into Sherwood Forest many times over the years. In fact, back when we were just 17 and Husband and I were just boyfriend and girlfriend, I fondly remember meeting his Grandad. He was shocked that I didn’t believe Robin Hood was anything more than a fairy tale and had no idea there was a real Sherwood Forest so he told me all the stories and sent us into the forest with directions on where to go for a picnic. Sadly he is no longer with us today but I am sure he will be pleased that we still visit there today and that the legend has been passed on to our girls.
It had been raining all night and part of the morning too so we wrapped up in leggings, fleeces and boots (really in July???) and off we went. We took Grandma and her dog with us and met the others there too. To say I’m not a fan of dogs is a massive understatement, especially around children but my girls were in their element, taking it in turns to walk her.
The highlight of the forest is obviously the the huge old tree in the middle. The one where Robin Hood was supposed to live. They were acting out a little play around it on this particular day, something we have not seen before but caught the girls attention for a little while.
A great way to blow away the cobwebs and keep the girls out of trouble.

July 15, 2016 at 11:04 pm (8 years ago)Love the photo of the girls with Robin Hood in the background and how lovely to have that memory of your husband’s Grandad telling you all the stories about Robin Hood and passing all that down to your girls with your trips to Sherwood Forest. I love places like this which have a bit of history and legend attached to them – it makes it so much more interesting. #CountryKids

July 16, 2016 at 8:52 am (8 years ago)Sherwood Forest always looks so magical, and it’s so steeped in history it’s hard not to believe it is. The weather has been all over the place this month with fleeces and leggings followed by summer dresses, the girls look like they’ve had a fab time though! The girls look like they’re having a fabulous time, I’m much the same as you with dogs but the girls look like they’re in their element walking Grandmas.
Thanks for sharing with me on #CountryKids.

July 16, 2016 at 10:23 am (8 years ago)Coming from another country, I always thought like you before that he is just an urban legend. Nice to see that he is real and his tales will live on forever as long as we exposed our kids to his story! And what better way on learning about him than visiting the place where it all happened!
Thanks for sharing this trip. Lovely photos as always! #coutrykids

July 16, 2016 at 12:35 pm (8 years ago)What a wonderful way to keep the stories of Robin Hood alive. We drive past Sherwood Forest a few times a year, but this year I must make sure that we stop and go for a walk around #countrykids

July 16, 2016 at 6:11 pm (8 years ago)its lovely when you pass traditions down to your children. I’m also not keen on dogs but am adamant that my daughter doesn’t have a fear of them (one licked her last summer and we’re still getting over it). Love the photos; really great quality and eye catching. #countrykids
