Last weekend a friend and I took her son and my three girls to a local May Day fair. I’m not sure why it was that particular weekend as it was the middle of May not around the start but I think it was a good excuse for some fun and to raise money for the local community.
It’s the sort of thing that Husband is not too keen on and I never would have taken them alone to. Originally I was just taking the younger two as Poppy wasn’t feeling great but she soon perked up when she thought she would be missing out on some fun. I didn’t take a camera as I needed my hands free with them all but I managed to snap a few photos whilst there on my phone:
As soon as we arrived we spotted a fire engine and the children were all allowed to climb in. The firemen were very friendly and chatting to everyone, they even let the kids have the blue light on for a minute, although Daisy wasn’t too keen on that bit. Later there was a Police car to climb in too. Lots of fun:
There were some lovely animals to pet including baby goats, donkeys, chickens and pigs. The girls adore animals so this was particularly lovely for them:
I thought the animals coped very well with all the children and noise. This one even kept showing us an egg she had layed and was keeping warm:
They all played games for prizes, bounced on a bouncy castle and rode on old fashioned swings. They picked up a few more books we didn’t really need, limboed along to reggae music and even enjoyed a few sweet treats:
We bumped into lots of friends and even teachers from school and it was actually quite a nice afternoon.
I love days like this where last minute plans work out well.

May 21, 2016 at 7:45 am (9 years ago)So lovely when an afternoon is unexpectedly fun. It looks like many of our local village fairs. I loved them for the relaxed atmosphere and feeling of safety of not loosing the children, unlike the county shows. The photos on your phone are excellent and some lovely natural captures of the children who are clearly loving the fun of the fair. I’m guessing from the dresses you caught a couple of weekends ago when it was actually warm and sunny, a great way to spend the afternoon. Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids .
