There is now less than 6 weeks to go until my big race and I’ve realised that whilst I have been busy getting fit and running, I haven’t promoted my Just Giving page enough or raised much money for Cancer Research UK. Well as they say “better late than never” and I have a plan to do this.

First I wanted to write a post about all the people in my life who have been touched by cancer but every time I sat down to write it I got in a terrible mess and started to cry. You see there have been a few.

The original someone was a very good friend who developed breast cancer very young. Although she pulled through and eventually beat it, it was a horrendous time for her and a wake up call it could happen to any of us.

Next was a very close family friend, you know the ones you call Uncle when you grow up. I had known him since I was tiny so I was devesated when he was diagnosed and even more so when he eventually lost his life. His death had a huge impact on my whole family and he will never be forgotten.

Then there was my Husbands Grandad. Again someone I had know for years and looked up to. Husband was very close to his Grandad and found it very difficult when he eventually passed away. He is still missed greatly and we wish he could have met his great Grandchildren.

Finally, there was my Grandad. My lovely Grandad who is missed still everyday. Within 6 weeks of his diagnosis of mesothelioma he was gone. He only ever got to meet Poppy and not the other girls which makes me very sad. He really enjoyed spending time with Poppy and absolutely adored her. We got to spend a very special week together shortly after his diagnosis where he told me I was a great Mum and he was very proud of me (aaahhhhh those tears are welling up again).

My Grandad was definitely someone I looked up to. He idolised my Nana and would be so proud of how well she is doing now. He would also be thrilled to see he has 6 Great Grandchildren too. He was all about family. I love these photos of him with my Nana, Sister and I. I think he would find it amusing that I have picked old photos where he was much younger:

I think more than anything I am running for my lovely Grandad, for his memory and to help stop Cancer hurting anyone else or their families.

I can actually run 10ks now so know I can do it but I’m not very quick. Therefore over the next few weeks I am focussing on just getting faster.

In the meantime feel free to join in too. There are races all over the country so will be one near you. Feel free to use the voucher code RFLYum for a lovely little discount too.

Oh and please, please help me reach my target. You will find my Just Giving page here.

Fellow bloggers only, I also have a sneaky plan you might like. For every £5 you sponsor me I will happily place your blog badge on my sidebar for one month. So if you sponsored me £10 you get two months etc. Just an idea. Leave me a message if you want me to do this.

Many thanks for all your support.
