Being Ambassadors for LeapFrog means we have the very important job of road testing all of their latest products. With three little girls ages 3-7 we are huge fans of LeapFrog and the new LeapPad Platinum definitely doesn’t disappoint. In fact if weren’t sent it to review it would be number one on the girls Christmas lists.
First of all the LeapPad platinum looks great. It is the toughest kids tablet yet with a shatter-safe screen and wrap-around bumper (very important in this house). It features a 7″ hi-resolution screen and is Wi-Fi enabled with a kid-safe web browser, featuring child only appropriate content, web pages and videos approved by Leapfrog learning experts. It also has front and back cameras, video recorders, music player, enhanced parent controls and more. The recommended age range is 3-9 years.
So what do the girls really think about it?:
Poppy, very grown up now at 7 likes the music and thinks its aimed at more grown up/older children. She loves the cooking and human body games telling me it is very educational as well as fun! I have a feeling that there is still plenty for her to get out of it and that she won’t outgrow it quickly either, always a bonus when she are looking at buying these more expensive products.
Rosie at 5 currently can’t stop writing so loves the note app. She will literally spend ages writing notes to herself and Sisters. As a result her spelling is improving dramatically. She also enjoys the music, taking photos, creating videos (she could be a fab vlogger) and the Pet Pad Party game which she plays for ages.
Daisy at 3 thinks this LeapPad is amazing and all hers. She calls it her “baby iPad”. She is very able to use it but did chew the soft end off the stylus when I walked out of the room to make a cup of coffee. We have had to cut it off or she would have ruined the screen scraping it across it. Definitely not a toy to leave younger ones alone with. We are still of course able to use it with finger touch and I will pick them up another stylus too. Daisy’s colour recognition has come on in leaps and bounds as she too loves the Pet Pad Party game and spends ages changing the colour of her panda. She also dances away to the music at every chance.
What do us parents think?
First of all we really do love LeapFrog products and thank them for giving us back own tablets again. We also appreciate any toy that that they can all play with quite happily.
The main thing we really like about this one is that you seem to get more for your money. There are more games and things included in the box, making it feel better value. We also like the fact that the battery has a power saving facility whereby it turns itself off when idle. I don’t know about yours but my girls are forever walking off and leaving things on so this is a great feature. Having cameras/ video cameras are brilliant but I must point out at only 2mp they could be a bit better. Of course the fact that all games are kid safe approved and there is no danger of children seeing things they shouldn’t online, makes the LeapFrog Platinum a very good idea indeed.
Overall another great product from LeapPad which kids of all ages will enjoy and feel very grown up with.
Thanks LeapFrog.
