I love making hairbows for my girls and recently decided they needed handmade dresses and skirts to go with them.

Having never used a sewing machine before or actually having sewed anything since school, my lovely Mum let me have a play with hers last month. She then went and brought me one of my very own for my birthday a few week ago. What a lovely Mum I have!

Having moved house and having been on holiday I hadn’t had a chance to get it out of its box until last Thursday. After an evening learning how to use the machine and a little practice at the different stitches and button holes I was ready for more.

I had some material ready for dresses but decided to try skirts first. They looked a bit easier and didn’t even require a pattern.

I started off with one each for Poppy and Rosie but am going to try a little dress out for Daisy next. Here’s the result:

Of course they needed road testing to check they were ok so we played in the garden first and then took the scooters out for a quick whizz up and down the street:

We decided Poppy’s was probably a little big but apart from that they are great (just as long as you don’t look too closely). They get a big thumbs up from my girls anyway:

I’ve caught the bug now and can’t wait to get making more “stuff”. Dresses next so watch this space.
