Sometimes it is amazing how toys can impact on our children and their behaviour. Take Leap Frog’s Read With Me Violet. Daisy was sent this last week and it has quickly turned out to be her favourite toy:
Aged just 4 and the youngest in her class Daisy is at school already and is learning to read. She is doing pretty well but does lack confidence. Sometimes she will just look at a new book and say “I can’t read that yet” before she has even looked inside. She does adore books and being read to though. I knew as soon as I saw this toy that it would be perfect for her:
Since having her new Read With Me violet our house has become a much calmer and quieter place. She often takes herself off to a quiet corner or even to her bed and just snuggles up with her and one of the books. Of course we do it together too but mostly she likes to go off and read by herself just like her big sisters do. It’s very cute:
This toy teachers early comprehension and vocabulary. Daisy might be towards the upper age limit for it and yes she would have enjoyed it from a younger age but she is definitely using Violet to help develop and build on her current reading skills. We think she’s fantstic:
The toy itself has five interactive spots over her body – her collar where you can choose which book to read, her back, head and both paws. You child will be asked to interact with Violet at different stages. She can read the books, sing songs and ask questions. Daisy has really enjoyed interacting with her and happily answers any question she asks. If you watch it’s like they are chatting! She also enjoys the lullaby facility and has been taking her to bed and listening to the music every night since she received her:
5 small board books come with this toy. The stories are short and sweet. When I personally read with Daisy, I read much longer books with more elaborate and interesting stories but these are pitched perfectly at children learning to read. They even have a similar number of words on a page as her school books do and that she can read herself. She can’t yet, but It won’t be long and she will be able to read all these books by herself i’m sure. Currently she recognises certain words and you can see her looking and concentrating on the ones she can’t:
There are 70 + comprehension questions altogether. Its lovely to see your child interacting with a cuddly puppy, answering her questions and smiling as they read together. This toy definitely gets the thumbs up from this family.
Did I mention that it comes in a Scout version too? For boys and less girly girls, a green scout is available. It includes the same books but is just green instead of purple.
Thank you very much Leapfrog, another fantastic product!

Loving life with little ones
March 1, 2017 at 9:42 pm (8 years ago)Violet looks great, we have the toddler nursery rhyme singing version and he is loved by Little 3. I think the idea of a toy that interacts and helps with reading is a really good idea.
