Poppy had to go to school dressed as a pirate today. I have known about it for a while, she had even picked an outfit online which somehow I forgot to order. I finally ordered it last week but because it was Easter weekend it didn’t turn up on tine aaaaaahhh!!
“Don’t worry Mummy, you can make me one” she said so full of optimism I how could I not try? So I searched online for inspiration and then checked out our wardrobes. I managed to find an old black and white maternity top with horizontal stripes, an old red tshirt of Poppy’s that didn’t fit anymore and an old white top that was too short for her too. Then I took out my scissors and chopped them all up.
First I took the white blouse and chopped the bottom off – voila! One head scarf! Next I cut the bottom off the red tshirt for a waist band and finally I cut two rectangles out off the maternity top and sewed them together with two side seams to create a skirt with vertical stripes. Then I simply sewed them all together.
I used a few tiny pleats where required but didn’t measure or anything. I just made it roughly fit. Finally I chopped the bottom jaggardy. No need for hemming as pirates are ruggard looking.
This was the result:
Whilst it might not be the neatest, prettiest dress in the world, she loved it and happily went into school this morning. I of course felt like a good Mummy and Husband was pleased too as it cost nothing to make!
