Our perfect holiday is a little bit like the way we take our photographs. It can vary considerably depending on our mood:
Sometimes our perfect holiday can be a simple UK break, perhaps tucked away in a log cabin hidden in the forest or in a warm cosy cottage on a country farm:
At other times it might mean a plane or a ferry trip to warmer shores. We all agree there is something pretty special about waking up to bright blue skies every day, being able to wear summer clothes in the warm sun and enjoy the simple pleasures of playing in the golden sand and warm sea:
It might even be a freezing cold white one with lots of fun and sporty activities like skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing and snowboarding:
There is always one magical ingredient though. Our perfect holiday is without a doubt a family holiday. All five of us have to be in it for it to be perfect!
When it comes to taking photographs, the way we do it varies quite a bit too. Like holidays it can be very much influenced by our mood, the activity we are doing and yes, even the weather.
Husband is the main photographer in this relationship and it’s him that has taught me most of what I know. He has a number of cameras but his first choice would be his Canon 5D Mark III. A professional camera with variety of L lenses. I am allowed occasionally allowed to use it but he watches me like a hawk and experiences palpitations until it’s safely back in his own hands. It’s a fantastic camera and perfect for capturing those candid moments where the girls don’t even know they are being photographed:
My favourite camera and number one choice is my beloved Canon 600D. I adore this camera and when it’s not around my neck it’s not usually far from me. Sometimes I mix it up a bit and pinch one of his lens’s though:
For rainy days or around water, we both really enjoy using our GoPro. Perfect for taking videos, photographs or even taking stills from video, it makes taking photos on holiday easy peasy and a bit of a family affair. No need to worry about sand or water, this baby has its own waterproof case and a whole host of accessories to make taking photos fun. We have been know to strap it to ourselves or the daughters or even give it to them on a selfie stick. Check out our video of them on the waterslides below:
Wherever we go or whatever we do though, there are a few things that can make our holiday sparkle. A perfect holiday will be lots of fun and filled with cuddles, smiles and giggles. A combination of quality family time together and kids clubs for the girls (their request not ours). Apparently they need time away from the grown ups and to play with children their own ages. It would be relaxing but not boring, there would be opportunities for a spot of exploring, adventure and new experiences. Oh and of course it would definitely involve some delicious treats like ice cream or hot chocolate:
Our perfect holiday, our family holiday.
We also had a bit of fun with making this video to show we are able to do much more than just pretty photos:

February 20, 2016 at 5:47 pm (9 years ago)Really lovely post and great photos Karen. Your husband has a great camera – you should ‘borrow’ it more when he’s not looking! I’ve got a 5d and I wouldn’t be with anything else although I have spied another lens I want! Best of luck with the competition, Mark Warner holidays are ace x
