We switched to real nappies when Daisy was about 4 months old but if we are going to be out all day, or on holiday we do tend to still use disposables for convenience. I was therefore intrigued to try gNappies. The reusable nappy with a choice of disposable or cloth inserts.
First impressions were good. They come in lots of pretty colours and a few really cute designs. I love the look of this one:
We were sent two to try – the one below and one in grape:
I love the outside of the nappy – the gPant bit. I like the shape, the softness and the Velcro but I must admit I have found them much fiddler than the pocket nappies we usually use.
I”m just not that sure about the whole pocket bit.
It might be made from a revolutionary and unique material that is comfortable, breathable and waterproof but it resembles a plastic pocket. Daisy didn’t complain but I did worry that they weren’t as comfortable as what she’s used to.
I liked the idea of helping save the planet a bit more too with biodegradable inserts but when you read the website it says:
A conventional disposable nappy takes up to 500 years to break down. gNappies are the only earth-friendly nappies that are 100% biodegradable*. gNappies disposable inserts can be home composted (wet ones only please), or binned. Good for babies. Good for the planet. And easy on everybody.
* Disposable inserts are biodegradable in home composts per ASTM standards by a third party independent lab (wet ones only please). Nothing truly biodegrades in a landfill. But gNappies gives you options for disposal. Compost or bin. The choice is yours.
Seeing as though we use washable ones at home this means I wouldn’t be helping to save the planet anymore than I already do. That together with the price of the disposable inserts being more than a normal packet of diposable nappies, I’m afraid to say they weren’t for us. Obviously as with all reusable nappies, the cloth inserts could be reused over and over so would be much less expensive and bring the price right down.
These nappies look lovely on the outside but personally we haven’t been converted. We will be sticking to what we know and like. That’s just us though, feel free to try them for yourself. I still think they’re pretty cute!

April 15, 2013 at 7:48 pm (12 years ago)I only have two “official” gNappy inserts, mostly I use Mothercare Smart Nappy inserts and they are amazing. I’ve been known to pop a flip pre fold in for megapee power as well.
