Last weekend we enjoyed a wonderful weekend away at Bluestone Wales. Okay so it was December and the weather wasn’t perfect but with so much to do it made no difference to us. We had a fantastic time. I have already written about some of the outdoor fun we had whilst there and about the Kingdom of Elves so this is just more about the weekend in general. There was far too much fun to be had to write all about it in one post:
It’s hard to know where to start. I guess it should be at the beginning though. We arrived on a dark, wet and foggy evening at about 5.30/6pm. The arrival process was very well organised and there was no trouble there. The only difficulty we had was that it was pitch black and you couldn’t see anything once in the park. I’m not joking, it really was black and none of the signs were illuminated. Just one small change Bluestone could do to make a huge difference to customers during the winter months. We weren’t the only ones struggling, it was pretty obvious others were too. However, this was our only gripe the whole weekend and we definitely didn’t let it spoil it for us:
We did think about hiring a golf cart on the first night but when Husband went to enquire he was told you needed to book in advance and there were none available. It wasn’t a problem though as our girls are used to walking but it would have been nice. We might have just tried one out for size:
We stayed in the Tenby Lodge which sleeps 6. A one and a half storey semi-detached lodge with a modern open plan living and dining area. It had three bedrooms, a double with ensuite upstairs and two twins complete with bathroom downstairs. We took my best friend Sarah with us so there were three adults and three children in total. It felt very spacious yet cosy at the same time and was very warm and welcoming. For larger groups or families you can actually book the two together and have it all open as one large lodge which would be fantastic. I loved how there was plenty of room for coats and wellies, they really had thought about everything:
Our first day it rained all day but we barely noticed as were far too busy having fun. One of the highlights for all of us had to be the Blue lagoon. Pools, slides and waves meant there was plenty to keep us entertained and we spent a lot of time there. It was fantastic. Two things that made it even more enjoyable were the fact that we had three grown ups to manage the three girls (we never usually have enough hands or eyes) and that Daisy was tall enough to go on everything…yippee! Being able to go on all the slides meant that the whole family could do things together. No-one had to be left waiting with smaller ones. It was fab! We literally spent the whole time going up and down, up and down.
We didn’t sneak the camera in and there are signs everywhere saying don’t take photos except in designated areas but just take our word for it it was brilliant. A highlight was being outdoors in a warm pool on the way down from one of the slides with a few drops of rain falling down on us, looking out at the views. It was wonderful! We would go back again just to use this facility. Oh and unlike other places we have stayed, the water was lovely and warm. No-one went blue or was shivering. A definite bonus when holidaying with young children as that just spoils it for everyone.
The afternoon was spent at the Adventure Centre which is pretty impressive. The grown ups enjoyed hot chocolates with marshmallows and cream (delicious) whilst the children went crazy doing what they do in these places. At first we worried it was too big and we would lose them but we soon realised they each favoured different areas and it was easy to to keep our eyes on them from our comfy sofa spot. They soon tired themselves out. Had we stayed longer Poppy and Rosie would definitely have done the high ropes. They looked amazing and were not too expensive either:
The final day (Sunday) we wondered around exploring the village in the morning. Bluestone really is in a beautiful location. The park itself is set in 500 acres of wild Pembrokeshire landscape so there is lots to explore. Had the weather been a bit better we would have definitley done a bit more exploring than we did. There just wasn’t enough time though. We had an appointment with Santa’s Elves to keep:
With beautiful lodges, an amazing pool, fantastic indoor adventure centre and gorgeous grounds there really is plenty for everyone. We had a fantastic time and didn’t want to leave. Had we been able to stay the extra night and not had to return early for a school play, we would definitley have made it to the beach. In fact we can’t wait to go back to Bluestone again soon.
Have you been yet?
