Has your child been behaving differently recently?
Perhaps they have been suffering from extreme exhaustion, not wanting to get out of bed in the morning and struggling to do the most simplest of tasks like teeth cleaning without a battle. They might also have been displaying unusually strong emotional outbursts in the form of anger complete with foot stomping and screaming (not dissimilar to a 2 year old) and tearfulness at the touch of a button.
If this sounds familiar to you, your child could be suffering from Endoftermitis (*pronounced end of term itis). It is a very common childhood disease that has extremely negative side effects and is highly contagious. The cause is almost completing a long year at school and the effect of their bulging brains requiring immediate rest. The only cure is a long summer holiday with plenty of family fun!
Well you’ve guessed it, my children have it and this house has not been a pleasant one for the past two weeks. We have experienced all of the effects above and more. I have discovered the diagnosis through talking to other Mums in the playground, been reassured they are not the only ones and have decided to take action.
We are not waiting until the end of term for our rest. We are taking a family mini break this weekend. A lovely long weekend in Cornwall to relax and recuperate, enabling them to make it through until the end of term. I am hoping that some good old fashioned family fun at the beach with buckets and spades and plenty of fresh air will rid the girls of this nasty disease and make them more like my little girls again.
I can’t wait to tell you all about it next week.
