Last weekend I was a rubbish Mummy and took the girls to Corrnwall with no coats or footwear other than jelly shoes and sandals. Of course I checked the weather app prior to coming but admittedly I hadn’t rechecked the day of our departure so had been planning for a warm and sunny weekend by the coast.

The weather was gorgeous when we arrived and was even better the following day. We were all in our swimsuits at the beach but then it changed….we woke up on Sunday morning to the pitter patter, pitter patter sound of rain on the windows.

We knew it was going to be a day out somewhere but where to go in bad weather? Poppy was dying to go back to the Eden Project  and we remembered a lot of it was indoors so off we went.

As we arrived in the car park we noticed the long bendy buses . It was a bit of a relief as we remembered a long walk last time we came. We noticed a few old people looking over at the girls in their pretty dresses and Summer footwear with disapproving looks as if to say “look at those girls, they should have their coats on”. It did make us giggle….as if we didn’t know ourselves.

Thankfully though it really wasn’t that bad. The bus delivered us to a long covered walkway which took you all the way to the entrance. We didn’t hang around too long admiring the views as the rain was starting to get heavier and instead quickly headed towards the biomes where we knew it would be warm and dry.

Inside then for quite a while we explored both the mediterranean and rainforest biomes. It was lovely. The rainforest was so hot and sticky the girls actually took off their cardigans and we even had to cool off in the cold room and then have an ice-cream to cool down. Luckily everyone else was stripping off their layers too so we no longer looked like irresponsible parents! Once again the rainforest canopy walkway was our favourite bit.

Back outside it wasn’t heavy rain but drizzle and it wasn’t cold either. The girls had cardigans and were perfectly fine. We didn’t hang around enjoying and exploring the fabulous gardens but did admire them on our way through. Obviously it would be better on a sunny day but it was still perfectly enjoyable and not a write off.

Again the core biome had plenty of activities to keep little ones interested an busy as well as out of the rain.

We love the Eden project for a day out and would definitely go back. Admittedly it’s lovely to be able to explore the beautiful gardens, hidden walkways and secrets but there is still plenty on offer for a rainy day. If like us you are ill prepared you can still have a fun day out in bad weather.
