Prior to having Poppy, Husband and I were living out in Canada and had thrown ourselves in to the Winter sport lifestyle. We both joined ice hockey teams and had just brought all our own ski stuff. Yes we have it all right down to my gorgeous fur lined ski boots which detachable heat warmers!

We were fortunate enough to learn on some of the best slopes in the World, the Lake Louise ski resort and Sunshine Village Banff. We didn’t really realise that they were World Class ski resorts at the time but did appreciate how beautiful and amazing they were:

But then I got pregnant. Something that we had begun to think would never happen. Obviously once I realised I had to stop. I was thrilled to be pregnant but I must admit it was a long Winter watching everyone do all those fun things without me. In fact I couldn’t wait to get going again after she was born.

I even had a go at snowboarding. It was much more difficult than I thought it would be and my body ached in places that had never ached before but I really enjoyed it. I wasn’t very good but would love the chance to try it again:

We came back from Canada when Poppy was just one so she didn’t get the opportunity to try these things out for herself. Now at 7 she would probably be really good at all of them if we were still out there. After all when the snow comes down, there isn’t much else to do and the Winter lasts forever – well a good 6 months anyway!

Skiing is definitely on our family bucket list. Now the girls are all a bit older I think we might have a go soon, maybe even next Winter if we can save up enough. Being in the mountains, that real fresh air and the feeling of freedom as you ski downhill is something we definitely want to share with our adventourous girls.

Have you tried skiing with young children? I would love to hear about your experiences.
