This year, the girls have collected hundreds of conkers. They have been fascinated with them. Everytime they have been a bit grumpy or need to let off steam we have gone outside and collected more. They've filled buckets, bowls and even my handbag. It's been great fun.
Husbands new workplace is only 5 minutes away from our house and in it's grounds are the best conker trees ever. Even I get excited. There have been literally hundreds of conkers varying from huge ones, small ones and lots with 2 and even 3 inside. It's amazing.
The girls have enjoyed the fresh air, jumping in the crisp leaves and squishing the crunchy, spiky outer shell beneath their feet. They've squealed with delight when the conkers pop out and excitedly put them in their bucket.
Most of the time we haven't taken the camera but a few weekends ago when my Sister and her family were over, we managed to get a few photos:
Cousins, conkers, fresh air and a fish pond – what more do you need for a fun filled afternoon?
We had planned to get crafty with our conkers but sadly we no longer have any. A very cheeky squirrel visited our garden last Saturday and spent a few very wet hours collecting each and every one. The girls watched on carefully and asked lots of questions about hibernation. In a very sweet moment Poppy told Rosie not to worry, that they are very kind and are going to keep the little squirrel alive and well this Autumn 🙂
As always linking in with Country Kids – our inspiration behind getting outdoors this year.

October 10, 2014 at 11:06 pm (10 years ago)Great photos and looks like everyone is having a lot of fun. We’ve been trying to collect conkers this year but haven’t managed to find a conker tree yet. Love the way your girls accepted that the conkers will be feeding the squirrels over the autumn 🙂

October 10, 2014 at 11:40 pm (10 years ago)Your girls are really starting to shock me by how much they have grown since I last saw them for real. Looks like they are having a wonderful time showing their cousins all the best places to play and collect conkers. You are giving them such a wonderful natural childhood. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

October 11, 2014 at 12:00 am (10 years ago)Lovely photos. I do love conker collecting. We’ve not done much this year, but might have to visit my work this weekend to see if there’s any left.
Strange that the squirrels had them. I thought they were more after acorns, as would have thought conkers were too big.

October 11, 2014 at 2:53 am (10 years ago)Gorgeous photos. We don’t seem to get conkers here, which is a shame. Love the though of that cheeky squirrel acquiring all your chestnuts, lovely that the girls watched and know that the squirrel is getting ready for the winter 🙂

October 13, 2014 at 9:45 am (10 years ago)We’ve been collecting conkers too, we had good intentions of making things with them but school asked for jars of conkers to make harvest wreaths so we sent them all in instead x
