Last week was awful as from Tuesday onwards one by one we all went down with a horrible, horrible bug. However, on Saturday there was a gap in the clouds and a glimpse of sunshine and no-one was being sick so so we wrapped up warm and headed out for a breath of fresh air. We decided to go somewhere quiet where we wouldn’t pass our germs on to too many others. We settled on driving down close to the river in Richmond for a little walk along it.
Richmond is so pretty and somewhere I have fond memories of from my life pre children when I used to live and work close by. The River Thames runs through the heart of it for 21 miles linking Hampton Court Palace, Teddington Lock, Richmond town centre and Kew Gardens with central London. On really sunny days it can get quite busy there but luckily for us it was really quiet. I have memories of running and cycling alongside it with my Husband, pub lunches with friends and ice creams in the sunshine. It was lovely to share one of my previous favourite places with the girls.
We didn’t expect anyone to last long as none of us had any energy but in the end we lasted a good few hours. The girls didn’t run about quite as much as usual but the fresh air seemed to lift their spirits and restore their smiles so all was good. The unplanned stop for mini hot chocolates went down well too.
Its amazing how much fun you can have just walking alongside the river. Admittedly it’s even nicer in the Summer but it was a great way to get rid of the cabin fever. Unfortunately there was more sickness to come and we were once again housebound as the rest of the family caught the dreaded bug. I just hope we didn’t pass it on to too many passers by and apologies if we did!
Thankfully we are all better now.
As always linking our outdoors adventures with Country kids.

Glad you managed to get a bit of respite in the middle of it all though and go for a walk. Richmond is such a pretty place – I hardly go there anymore now that I no longer work in London but must be lovely to to walk along the river and your girls certainly look like they enjoyed their walk 🙂

January 23, 2016 at 9:36 am (9 years ago)Sickness bugs like that are just the worst but how lovely to spot the chance for you all to grab some fresh air on a good day, I’m sure it really did do you all the world of good. I have fond memories of running to work along the river between Hampton Court and Kingston, it was always beautiful, whatever the season. The coffee stops looks like a perfect treat too. Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
