It was Poppy’s 8th birthday on Monday and Husbands birthday too. We celebrated on Sunday with a joint birthday party in the garden for Poppy and her friend and then went out for a family day out and birthday picnic on Monday. A really lovely weekend in the sunshine.

The party was successful. We had it in our garden which we decorated with tables and benches, banners, balloons and paper chains. It worked perfectly and they  invited lots of friends from their class.  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. They had the usual games, a barbecue, cake and ice lollies followed by the sprinkler and water balloons. Lots of fun:

After everyone left, my sister and her boys stayed behind and we carried on relaxing in the garden until the early evening. The children were all playing beautifully so us adults just sat back catching up and enjoyed watching them. We ended up putting the barbecue back on and they all stayed for supper. They didn’t leave until around 7pm so it really was a lovely day.

Monday we headed off on a family adventure to Polesden Lacey, a National Trust place we have been eyeing up for a while. It didn’t disappoint and really was a lovely place to explore and have fun. There was the usual hill rolling, discovering bugs and insects, even some chickens:

The girls of course loved all of the flowers and had run running around the gardens:

Armed with a picnic, complete with a small birthday cake with candle and non alcoholic pink fizz for us all, it felt like a special day.

The girls were interested both indoors and out. Partly because the staff were very helpful and friendly and party because there was dressing up:

They definitely enjoyed themselves and were shattered by the end of the day. Definitely somewhere we would go back to again:

What a wonderful, sunny few days.

As always linking in with Fiona and country kids.
