So you might have noticed that my blog has had a bit of a makeover recently. Well really it has had two.
I had been eyeing up a new theme for months, in fact way before the Summer holiday’s started. I didn’t change it then for one reason or another but over the summer I was constantly having trouble with my old theme, most noticeably the slider on my home page was not working properly. It began to bother me more and more and I couldn’t fix it. It made my whole site look odd. Eventually I decided to take the plunge and go for a completely different new look. Turns out I had been hacked again and that was the problem but never mind its all sorted now.
I chose a theme with little boxes. I had always like Clares over at Maybush Studio. Her’s looks very modern and very professional. I didn’t want it to be exactly the same, just with the same concept but much more girly. I thought it would be a simple mini makeover but it turned out to be more work then I first imagined. To be honest it was a lot of work going back over 4 years of posts making sure the featured image was cropped correctly but in the end I didn’t like it. It just wasn’t me. It looked too busy and just didn’t feel like my blog anymore. Having toyed with the idea of two themes, I quickly realised I had made a mistake.
Luckily I always buy my themes from the same place and they kindly gave me a very generous discount, allowing me to purchase this new one. Yes I buy them! There are so many themes out there but not pretty, feminine ones all set up ready to go. That’s why I always go back to Bluchic. They are constantly updating their themes, have a range to choose from and even offer free ones too. You should check them out. I have had the Kelly, Naomi, Paisley and now the Olive.
One thing I will say though is if you are just starting out a new word press blog, make sure you always add a featured image right from the start even if you don’t know what its for or why you need it. It will save you a lot of time later if you start experimenting and changing your theme. I didn’t and it meant hours of extra work. There are plug ins out there to add photos as your featured image but if your blog has been established for a while like mine, it takes a while to go through them all, make sure they look suitably impressive and are the right size.
If you have any trouble the support on offer is fantastic too. For the first time ever I had a few issues this time but they were very helpful and very patient, quickly helping to identify the problem for me so that I could fix it.
To be honest my blogs new look is still not completley finished but its getting there. I will be spending the next few weeks tinkering with it I imagine. However, I am very happy with the way its going. This new look really is a true reflection of me…
…it’s my family…my blog and I love it!!
I love changing my blog theme every now and again (probably about once a year), keeping my look fresh and up to date. Do you?
