I am absolutely loving waking up to sunshine everyday. It puts a spring in my step and a smile on my face straight away. Then I get to dress us all in pretty clothes and the day gets better!
The girls are loving being able to play out lots more but we are having to be much more careful. You see, a few weeks ago Rosie got sunstroke. She was not burned at all but was sick and dehydrated…it wasn't nice. On top of that I'm terrified when Daisy's monitor says 26-27 degrees.
Here's how I've been coping with little ones in this heat:
1. Make sure they wear their hats! It's simple we have a rule in this house now…no hat, no playing outside. They don't always like it but they comply or go in. With Daisy being so young, I just keep being consistent & put it back on when she takes it off…. she'll learn!
2. Sun tan lotion. I slather on the once a day stuff before they even get dressed. That way you don't miss any bits.
3. UV swim suits. We use these a lot in the garden even when not in the pool or playing with water. They just keep them all covered and therefore protected from the sun.
4. Drink, drink and drink again! I am constantly offering drinks and topping them up. If they won't drink I say things like “you have to have 5 sips before you can play on the swing again” etc. ice lollies are liquid too!
5. Wear cool cotton clothes. The bigger ones are always in light summer dresses or shorts and teeshirts whilst Daisy has 5 little romper suits she lives in. They are cool and she can crawl around in them unlike in her longer dresses:
6.keep them inside during the hottest part of the day or if not posible at least in the shade.
7. Use blackout blinds in childrens bedrooms. They obviously help darken the room so children can sleep but they also help to keep rooms cool too.
8. Water play is great fun and helps keep everyone cool. If you don't have a big garden it doesn't matter. We've often used buckets or tubs to play in. The children think its great fun.
Let's hope we get lots more sunshine over the Sunmer.
