Growing up I remember lots of time spent playing outdoors. I remember long walks. I remember scaring my Mum as we climbed and jumped on the rocks on Dartmoor and picnics surrounded by wild ponies. I remember family days out to the beach where we enjoyed crabbing and exploring the rock pools. I remember eating ice creams and chips in a cone. Such simple pleasures that I now enjoy doing with my Husband and three girls. These sorts of things cost very little but will all be stored up in their little brains and hopefully one day our girls will look back and remember them with the same fondness I do.
Our family outdoors adventures are all about making memories. There’s a million reasons why we all enjoy them so much but here are 10 reasons we LOVE playing outdoors:
1. Quality time spent together as a family away from any distractions:
(we really do need to take more photos with us all in)
2. The feeling of freedom as you run through long grass:
3. Being able to climb on everything without being told off:
4. Seeing animals close up, especially the ducks and their babies:
5. Picking wild flowers:
6. Sharing childhood traditions and games with our children:
7. A time for Sisters to relax and just play, explore and have fun together:
8. Discovering hidden play equipment or trails:
9. The opportunity to take the lead and develop independence:
10. Of course the backgrounds are pretty special for recording memories in the way of family photos too:
Just 10 reasons why we love playing outdoors and an excuse for sharing a selection of photos from our day out last Sunday:
As always I am joining in with country kids, our inspiration behind our outdoors lifestyle.

May 28, 2016 at 9:17 am (9 years ago)Some fab reasons why you enjoy getting outdoors with the family, many of them are the same for me too. It’s great to have the kids out in the fresh air away from the distraction of technology for an afternoon isn’t it? The girls look like they had a great time enjoying each others company and the fresh air in the sunshine. Thanks for linking up with me on #Coutnrykids.

May 28, 2016 at 7:44 pm (9 years ago)It really is! I’m lucky they are still young enough to happily play in the garden at home too. They are not at the stage yet when they only care about all the gadgets and things. Some days after school they’ve literally played out until tea and then again until bath time. They haven’t even had the TV on! So different to the Winter!

May 29, 2016 at 6:53 am (9 years ago)Fabulous photos. My children are older (11 and 13) and well down the addicted to technology route but as soon as we manage to separate them from it and head out into the countryside they’re like youngsters again! #countrykids

May 31, 2016 at 4:12 pm (9 years ago)You’re so right, and until you list them you don’t realise how many good reasons there are for playing outside. Jumping on anything you see, climbing on whatever takes your fancy and taking the lead. Independence of spirit and taking the lead is also important too and you don’t realise that when you’re out and about they probably do/can take the lead.
Thought provoking!
Lovely photos of your family and we don’t have enough of ourselves together either!

June 4, 2016 at 9:07 pm (9 years ago)Its not always easy to get them of you all together but at least we are all getting outdoors. I love letting them climb on everything as I am always saying “don’t climb on that” when they are indoors!
