Sadly we did not get away this Summer. Husband had to work it all which we knew before the holidays started. We had just moved into our new home too. We did however, manage to squeeze in lots of family fun and adventures though.

Here’s 10 things we did this summer:

1. Joined the library

Our two big girls are complete book worms but with so many books in the house I never saw the need for joining a library. The girls insisted though and were delighted when we did. They had so much fun choosing new books and read loads this Summer:

2. Went to the beach

Okay we might not have made it away on the beach holiday that I wanted but even a day trip or two makes you feel better. We collected shells and fossils, ate ice cream, played in the sea and even saw beach huts.

3. Explored our new area and had lots of picnics/ ice creams

We had lots of days out exploring the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire and even venturing to South Wales. We did a few National Trust Days out too. We probably ate too many ice crams (is there such a thing?) but we all enjoyed it.

4. Had lots of friends and family to stay.

We had my best friends, Rosie best friend, my Nana, my Sister and her boys to visit. It was lovely for them to see where our new house was and to catch up properly. So much fun.

5. Visited the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo and Maze

We haven’t been here for years but still loved it. the butterflies all came and rested on us, an amazing experience I will definitley be writing all about on here.

6. Spent time with Nanny and Gramps

The girls Grandparents now live only 10 minuted away and have a gorgeous garden set up for them. they had a 10ft pool, trampoline, treehouse and play area plus apple and pear trees that needed picking. W spent lots of time with them.

7. Went paddling in a stream

On a visit to Bourton on the Water we went to Birdland first which was lots of fun but this is the bit the girls still talk about everyday. It was such a perfect sunny day and something we will definitely be repeating.

8. Regular farm visits

Our favourite Cotswolds farm shop had 16 baby piglets this summer. The girls kept asking to go back to visit them so we kept going. They also had goats and chickens much to the girls delight. It became a regular thing for me to do whilst Daddy was working. Of course we picked up eggs, meat and vegetables whilst there too.

9. Went to Go Ape

This is seriously something I’ve seriously wanted to do for years and it didn’t disappoint. It was so much fun for the whole family and an amazing confidence builder. In particular Daisy was a little star. Leading the whole family around confidently. We can’t wait to go again now.

10. Went fruit picking

This became almost a weekly activity for the girls and I. We ate so many strawberries and raspberries this summer and can’t wait to pick our own corn later this month. Watch this space.

Of course there were a few birthday parties, playdates and lots of riding bikes, scooters and heelys…the girls are getting the hang of them now!

Not all of our days out were big or expensive ones but we managed to cram quite a bit in this summer and it was a lot of fun. It was very relaxing and laid back too which meant that everyone unwound and relaxed during this time and they also shot up in height again. I can’t tell you how tall they are all getting.

I am going to miss them now they are back at school though but it will be good to get back into a normal routine too.

Hope yours have all had a good first week.
